Trikatu (3 Pungents)
My Favorite Herb for Spring: Trikatu
As we move through Kapha season, one of my go-to Ayurvedic blends is Trikatu, a powerful combination of black pepper, long pepper (pippali), and ginger. This blend is pungent, warming, and stimulating—perfect for reducing sluggishness and supporting digestion, which tends to be slower in spring.
Trikatu helps ignite Agni (digestive fire), clear excess mucus, and promote circulation, making it an ideal remedy for Kapha imbalances. I love taking it with honey, which acts as a carrier, helping the herbs penetrate deeper while also soothing the throat and balancing Kapha’s heavy, damp qualities.
I take it first thing in the morning or 30 minutes before meals. 1/4 or 1/2 tsp of Trikatu powder with 1 tbsp local honey, mix until it forms a paste and take it followed by some warm/hot water.
